- How do I rate songs to let you know what I like and what I don't like while my stations are playing?
- There are two buttons to the right of the skip forward button in the Web Player, one with a heart icon and one with a 'ban' icon. While you are listening to a station, if a song appears that you don't like, press the 'ban' button. We won't ever play that song on that station again. If a song plays that you love, press the heart button. We will mark that as a favorite on that station. The station will play that song more often. And if you have the Slacker Premium Radio service, Slacker will save the songs you love to your Library so you can listen to these songs whenever you want.
- Top
- I just received a message telling me that I have reached my skip limits. Why did this happen and what do I do?
- While all of our content and stations are available in our free service, there is a 6 song skip limit for each station per hour. If you reach the limit, you can switch to another station, where you will have a fresh start on your skip limits. The initial station will regain those six skips over the next hour, whether or not you listen to that station. If you subscribe to the Slacker Premium Radio service, you will not have any skip restrictions. For more information on this, please check out our Products section.

- How do I create my own radio station?
- To create your own Custom Radio Station: Click the "Create Station" button. The Web Player displays the Create Station feature. In the text box in the left column, enter an Artist Name that you would like to add to your station. Enter additional Artist Names or click the Add button next to a related artist. Click "Save As" and type in the name of your new station. All stations require at least 15 artists. If you do not add 15 artists, then Slacker will add related artists to your station to reach 15 artists. You may add any number of artists over 15 that you wish.
- Top
- How do I ban an artist from my station?
- To ban an artist, and not just a single song by an artist: Click on the "Down Arrow" next to the Ban Icon (the button that has a circle with a line through it). Click on Ban Artist.
The artist will be banned only from the current station. The artist may play on other stations.

- How can I get a history of the songs that have played on the current station?
- You can get a history of the previously played songs on the current station by clicking the "Now Playing" tab that is located on the left side of the Web Player. Once there, the history should be displayed on the right hand side of the screen.
If you do not see the history of songs played, then you may need to change your Now Playing view to the Album Info screen. You can change this by going to "Options" and then choose "Now Playing Views" and then "Album Info". The history of songs is only available for the station you are currently listening to and if you change stations, the history list will be cleared and restart based on the new station.

- Why do I hear other artists when I select a specific artist radio station?
- When you play an "Artist Radio" station, we create a great radio station based upon the artist(s) that you choose AND other artists that are related to that artist. The Web Player does not allow you to play just one artist or album. Future offerings from Slacker will allow you other options such as on-demand playing of your favorite songs or artists. Please watch our Products page for the latest information concerning our upcoming products.
- Top
- I selected an artist to play, but that artist never appears on the station when I play it. What's wrong?
- We will constantly be adding new music to the Slacker service. There may be times when our library has information about the artist but no available music for that artist. You still can build stations that will play music by related artists. When our library is updated, songs by that artist will appear on your stations. Our library will be very dynamic, so keep trying. Your artists are likely to appear and begin playing as soon as we add them.

- I get a message saying "We have detected that you are currently logged into our service on another computer. Please log in again to continue using our service from this computer"
- The easiest way to resolve this is to open a completely fresh version of your web browser. To do this, rather than going to "File" and "New Window", you would want to double click on the icon on your desktop, or use the quick launch icon on the quick launch bar. This opens up a copy of your web browser that has never been to Slacker.com and therefore it will not attempt to access the server and cause you to be logged out.

- It seems to take a very long time refresh the stations on my Slacker Portable.
- The time it takes to refresh your Slacker Portable can depend on a number of things. First, your Internet connection speed is the biggest factor. The faster your speed, the faster that you can receive each song that needs to be refreshed to your Slacker Portable. In addition, the number of stations you are refreshing and the length of time since your last refresh will also play a large part in the time needed to refresh. The more “new” stations you are adding to your Slacker Portable, the longer it will take since it needs to build that station and add all new songs to your Slacker Portable. If you are only refreshing stations that are already loaded on your Portable, then it will only add as many songs as needed to refresh your station. Therefore, the first refresh of a station will be the longest, and subsequent refreshes should take a far shorter amount of time.

Lastly, you can try unplugging the power to your wireless broadcast point for about 10 seconds and then plugging the power back in.

- Can I pick which stations get to be refreshed or do I have to refresh all the stations?
- The Slacker Portable will refresh all the stations on the Portable when it connects to refresh. You always can cancel out of the refresh if you need to, but you can not refresh some of the stations and not others. If you do not want a station anymore, you can remove it from the player so that it does not refresh that station in future refreshes. Please use the Web Player and click the “Portable” button to manage the stations that are refreshed on your Portable.

- You can not ban artists on the Slacker Portable. If you would like to “Ban” an artist from your station, you will need to use the Web Player.
- Top

Slacker USB Station Refresher
- What does the Slacker USB Station Refresher do?
- The Slacker Portable Radio players can refresh via Wi-Fi or USB. In order to refresh with USB, you need to install the Slacker USB Station Refresher program first.
Once installed, then all of the drivers for the Slacker Portable Radio players should be installed and you will be able to refresh by plugging the Radio Player into your USB port via the included USB cable that came with the player.

- When I Connect the Player to USB, It asks me to install the drivers for the device. Where are these drivers?
- First, you need to download the USB Station Refresher and install it to have the drivers installed. You can download this program by going to http://www.slacker.com/support/ and clicking on the Portable Radio Tab. At the bottom of the Portable Radio section you will see the download button.
If you have already installed the program and you are still being asked for the drivers, then you can find them on your computer by browsing to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Slacker\USB Station Refresher\driver
All of the needed drivers are located in that folder after the USB Station Refresher has been installed.

- I have all the drivers installed, but the Portable Player gets stuck on "Connecting" when I try to refresh my Personal Radio Player.
- There are a number of applications that might be installed on a computer that will block the Personal Radio Player from being able to connect properly.
Anti-Virus Programs, Windows Defender, Firewalls, etc.
If you are having problems connecting, then you will want to temporarily disable these types of programs. Once they are all disabled, then try connecting the Personal Radio Player again. If it works, then turn the disabled programs on one at a time until you find the program that is causing the problems. Once the program has been identified, then you may need to configure it to allow "ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)" to work properly with the application.
Internet Connection Sharing is part of Windows XP and Windows Vista that we use to make a connection to the internet and pull the station refreshes down to the Personal Radio Players.
- Top
- When I connect the Personal Radio Player to the USB port, I get a message about limited or no connectivity.
- The most common cause of this problem is a network conflict. Built into Windows XP and Windows Vista is a program called Internet Connection Sharing. The Personal Radio Players use this program to access the Internet and connect to the Slacker servers.
When you use this program, it uses a network address of 192.168.0.1 for the connection. If you have another device on your home network, such as a router or modem (Dsl/Cable) that also uses this same address, then it can cause a conflict.
At this time, Microsoft does not allow us the ability to change the address for Internet Connection Sharing. Therefore, in order to resolve the conflict, you would need to consult the manual or manufacturers help on changing the IP address of the device causing the conflict with this address.

- What frequencies can I set my FM Transmitter to?
- The FM Transmitter can be set to use any of the standard FM frequencies. The FM Transmitter has the ability to be adjusted up or down to match the same Frequency that you have your Car's Radio Tuner set to.
We recommend that you find a frequency in your area that is just static (no radio stations broadcasting on that frequency). This will reduce the chance that you will have interference while using the FM Transmitter.
- Top
- Can I save an FM Frequency on the FM Transmitter so that I can quickly change to that frequency?
- Yes, the FM Transmitter provides 3 presets that you can program to an FM Frequency. Then by pressing the preset button you can quickly set the FM Transmitter to that frequency.
- Top
- When I use the FM Transmitter, I just hear buzz for a few seconds and then it Powers Off
- The FM transmitter will power off automatically after 30 seconds if it does not detect audio. The most common cause is that your Slacker Portable Player is set to a low audio setting and the FM transmitter is not picking up the audio.
We would suggest that you turn the volume on the Portable Player to 75%-90% of max. You can always adjust the volume of the Portable Player up or down after you have it setup and working properly.

Slacker Forums Login and Registration Issues
- Why can’t I login to the Slacker Forums?
- There are several reasons why this could occur. First, ensure your username and password are correct. If they are, contact the board owner to make sure you haven’t been banned. It is also possible the website owner has a configuration error on their end, and they would need to fix it.
- Top
- Why do I need to register at all?
- You may not have to, it is up to the administrator of the board as to whether you need to register in order to post messages. However; registration will give you access to additional features not available to guest users such as definable avatar images, private messaging, emailing of fellow users, usergroup subscription, etc. It only takes a few moments to register so it is recommended you do so.
- Top
- Why do I get logged off automatically?
- If you do not check the Log me in automatically box when you login, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university computer lab, etc. If you do not see this checkbox, it means the board administrator has disabled this feature.

- How do I prevent my username appearing in the online user listings?
- Within your User Control Panel, under “Board preferences”, you will find the option Hide your online status. Enable this option with Yes and you will only appear to the administrators, moderators and yourself. You will be counted as a hidden user.

- I registered but cannot login!
- First, check your username and password. If they are correct, then one of two things may have happened. If COPPA support is enabled and you specified being under 13 years old during registration, you will have to follow the instructions you received. Some boards will also require new registrations to be activated, either by yourself or by an administrator before you can logon; this information was present during registration. If you were sent an e-mail, follow the instructions. If you did not receive an e-mail, you may have provided an incorrect e-mail address or the e-mail may have been picked up by a spam filer. If you are sure the e-mail address you provided is correct, try contacting an administrator.
- Top
- I registered in the past but cannot login any more?!
- Attempt to locate the e-mail sent to you when you first registered, check your username and password and try again. It is possible an administrator has deactivated or deleted your account for some reason. Also, many boards periodically remove users who have not posted for a long time to reduce the size of the database. If this has happened, try registering again and being more involved in discussions.

- There are two images that may appear below a username when viewing posts. Depending on the used style, the first may be an image associated with your rank, generally in the form of stars, blocks or dots, indicating how many posts you have made or your status on the board. The second, usually a larger image, is known as an avatar and is generally unique or personal to each user. It is up to the board administrator to enable avatars and to choose the way in which avatars can be made available. If you are unable to use avatars, contact a board administrator and ask them for their reasons.

- What is my rank and how do I change it?
- Ranks, which appear below your username, indicate the number of posts you have made or identify certain users, e.g. moderators and administrators. In general, you cannot directly change the wording of any board ranks as they are set by the board administrator. Please do not abuse the board by posting unnecessarily just to increase your rank. Most boards will not tolerate this and the moderator or administrator will simply lower your post count.
